Limitless energy within a reach

Since the 50s we have been pursuing unlimited energy generated by nuclear fusion and now this dream can come true. On Tuesday scientists from the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in California broke through a tremendous obstacle. They managed to produce more energy than was put in. The amount of electricity produced in this test is negligible - barely enough to boil a few pots, but after all, it is a step closer to a nuclear fission future. However, this is still a long way off.

None of this makes sense for most of us, yet there are people that can make it work. It is amazing that because of their genius we could enjoy clear and limitless energy. Human development is incredible, we have made the world pliable toward us. Anyway, even though we probably still have to wait a few more years, it gives a hopeful look at the power industry and our planet's condition.

I've listened to an interview with a physics professor who said it was a technology of a distant future. What is at hand though, surprisingly, is technology that uses nuclear waste to produce energy. This would mean a clean planet + cheap energy.
